Perhaps the most difficult aspect of building a business is to develop a culture within your organization that brings about continued excellence. Excellence must be achieved in all aspects of the business, from sales to systems to human interaction.
And when it comes to humans, we are dealing with emotion, upbringing and value systems. Bringing people together who do not share a similar world view can be a real challenge. But it is crucial for the firm to develop a culture of excellence in order to sustain growth.
The job of the CEO or Founder is to set the tone for the company. Remember the crap flows downhill, so if there is a climate of politics, back stabbing and finger pointing, the CEO or Founder is responsible. Either that is in his or her nature or there is a lack of leadership.
